| Let the readers take control, get psyched and scour the world’s
coastlines for the next big thing. Who knows, it could turn out to
be the next Superbank, Jaws or Cortez. For a surfer, Google Earth
is an amazing tool. The speed in which you can zip from J-Bay to
Uluwatu and back up to Nova Scotia is astounding. Even better, you
can troll along unknown stretches of coastlines, scouring the set-ups
as resolution and cloud cover permits, and dreaming of how you might
get there. But there’s a level of deception to the whole thing,
too. The images are static, five years dated, and often heavily pixelated.
The pointbreaks generally look good, but about the beaches, shifting
river mouths and reef passes it’s hard to tell. Could be insane.
Could be a hoax. Could just depend on time and tide, swell direction
and season. Plus, there’s a lot that goes into actually getting
there: cost, accessibility, season and safety. Now, SURFING has decided
to take care of all that for one lucky winner. You could star in
a SURFING Mag photo trip. It could all happen to you. Just download
the free Google Earth software at Google.com and start scouring the
globe for the next undiscovered super-spot. |
