The 12 & Under mighty mite division saw groms like future barrel master Thomas De Champs throw themselves into chest high shore pound like it was over head Hossegor. 
The 5th stop of the 2006 RIP CURL GromSearch presented by Unbound Energy came to Kewalo Basin on Oahu's south shore, and was greeted with not just pumping surf, but also a historical performance by one grom in particular. 
Last year's Boys 14 and Under Surfing America champion Riley Metcaf is standing under the judge's scaffolding waiting for a sign: a thumbs up, a frown, a wink of an eye or shake of a head--anything that might betray some clue as to how he fared in the final. 
After a weekend spent in Huntington watching some of the world's best 20-and-under surfers, spectators were treated to a sizzling final on the south side of the pier, from which Eric Geiselman emerged as the first ever Fear at the Pier champion.

In true Huntington Beach fashion, stop #3 of the 2006 Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Unbound Energy was packed to the gills with fired up competitors. 
The final day at Nationals is not all toilet tricks, it's downright nerve racking. All the buildup from the whole year boils down to this: 6 kids, sitting out the back at the world's wettest skate park with just under 30-minutes to change the surfing world. 
This thing is getting serious. Up to today, Lowers has been smiles, a few carefree heats, some shaved ice and bro-shakes. But today something changed. 
Roll up to Lowers at 5 in the morning and you’re already too late. Carissa Moore and Dane Zaun are on it, laughing and splitting peaks still hours to go before the sun rises above the San Mateo Mountains and the first heat bell whines.
