Hurley Rip My Shredstick Tour Stop # 4: Virginia Beach

Groms and pros chillin at the Hurley RV
Virginia Beach is certainly not a place that you come to expecting to score great surf. And the case wasn’t any different for the Rip My Shredstick event. It was nearly flat but that didn’t stop all the groms from having a blast! In fact it didn’t stop the pros from having a blast either! One of the true highlights of the event was when a six-year-old mini grom Anthony King showed up with his lifejacket on and wanted to know where to pick up his jersey. Rob Machado took the little guy under his wing for the entire event. Before they paddled out for the morning heat, Rob asked him how well he could swim. The little tike replied, “I don’t really know how to swim”. He followed up by saying he only comes to Virginia Beach for a week each year and that he lives in Ohio. Rob smiled and the little fella’ went on to advance through four rounds and placed second in the event. That’s the beauty of the Rip My Shredstick tour.
