"Peel: the Peru Project" Makes Splash at the "Making Waves" Gala

June 12, 2006: THOUSAND OAKS, CA

The Malibu Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation’s annual “Making Waves” Gala was a tremendous success. Monterey Media donated a benefit premiere of TJ Barrack and Wes Brown’s newest movie, “Peel: the Peru Project” and Surfrider was able to raise thousands of dollars that will go toward cleaning our beaches and keeping our waters clear. Of the hundreds in attendance at the benefit gala were Surfing magazine’s Associate Publisher, Ross Garrett, Rob Cohen (director of The Fast and the Furious), Robert Hays (Airplane!) as well as Dana Brown (director of Step into Liquid and father of Wes Brown).

Jason Annis (Peel music supervisor), Steve Matzinger (Peel Director of Photography), T.J. Barrack, Wes Brown, Mark Healey, Dana Brown, Jamie Sterling, and Chris Husband (Peel Associate Producer)

TJ Barrack and Wes introduced “Peel: the Peru Project”, a movie featuring some of the world’s finest surfers riding the famous waves of Peru. Mark Healey, sponsored by Quiksilver, and Jamie Sterling, winner of a Billabong XXL Big Waves Award and sponsored by Redsand and Redbull, were two of the featured surfers from “Peel” who attended the benefit gala.

The event was staged at The Sunset in Malibu. After the high profile crowd mingled, while enjoying Patron margaritas, cocktails provided by Redbull, Krol Vodka and Endless Summer Beer, a full dinner was served while the party goers were treated to, “Peel: the Peru Project”. Afterward the award ceremony took place and the silent auction began, auctioning items such as a custom surfboard by Fineline, tickets to a Dave Matthews concert and weekend getaways. “Under the Influence of Giants” closed the night playing music with a 70’s twist, allowing the attendees to kick off their shoes and celebrate living in Southern California.
