Vote Now: Reef Board Build-Off

Shapers on both US coasts are in preparation for three, newly scheduled Reef Board Build-Offs™. The event returns to ASR in September with a solid line up of six talented shapers raising money for the SIMA Humanitarian Fund. In January, look for the Board Build-Off to reach new heights as twelve Orange County shapers battle it out at ASR and the East takes on the West at the first-ever ‘team’ Board Build-Off taking place at Surf Expo.

“Surfboard shaping is an art that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of our industry. We’re very proud that the Reef Board Build-Off™ is able to inspire, elevate, and draw attention to the world’s best shapers, while raising money for important causes,” says Bob Tanner, Marketing Director at Reef.

The creative quiver created for the September event will be on display in the Board Builders Pavilion at the heart of the ASR show. Participating shapers, chosen by Reef, include Terry Martin, Bob 'The Greek' Bolen, Jim Phillips, Jed Noll, Fletcher Chouinard and Danny Hess. Reef Apparel Designer, Dan Marriner will represent the brand as the ‘7th Shaper’ in the auction. As always, the shapers will create the best looking, ready-to-ride, surfboard they have ever imagined.

As part of the larger Liquid Nation fund-raiser benefiting the SIMA Humanitarian Fund, money raised at the September Board Build-Off will go to, “surf-related humanitarian organizations that are working to improve the quality of life, health and welfare of people in need around the world,” explains Sean Smith Executive Director of SIMA.

At Surf Expo, January 10th-13th, the Reef Board Build-Off™ becomes a battle of the coasts as East takes on West. Reef and Surfing Magazine will pick six shapers from each coast to participate in the first-ever ‘team’ format of the Board Build-Off.

Also for the first time ever, the surfing public is being asked to help choose the elite group of shapers who will participate in ASR’s Orange County Board Build-Off, January 24th-26th. Online voting starts today at surfingthemag.com and will run through August 31st. Find out which of your favorite OC shapers made the cut when winners are announced on September 10th. The beneficiaries of the January Board Build-Offs will also be announced at this time.
