World title contenders Damien Hobgood and Taj Burrow lick their wounds before Trestles
 Taj Burrow is battling the clock to get back in form before Trestles Five events down, five to go, and a couple of surfers are determined not to let this year’s Foster’s ASP World Tour become a one-horse race. While current No. 1 Mick Fanning continues his unflappable ways, Damien Hobgood, winner of this year’s Billabong Teahupo’o event and finalist at the Rip Curl Search CT in Chile, suffered a setback when he broke a bone in his knee at El Gringo. Current World No. 2 Taj Burrow, who won J-Bay, also scared himself recently when he suffered a grade 1 ligament tear surfing near his home in WA. TB immediately went on the rehab program, and should be up and running in time for the Boost Mobile Pro at Trestles. Meanwhile, Hobgood, who hasn’t surfed since his 33rd-place finish at J-Bay, is on the verge of clearance from his doctors. “It feels OK,” said Damo yesterday while vacationing with his family in North Carolina. “I’ve been staying off it and letting it heal because that’s what I was told to do. But I’m getting antsy, man. I’m ready to surf again.” Damien should be getting the green light from Doctor Warren Kramer sometime next week, which gives him just under a month to train up and make a run for it at Trestles. “I’ve had too good of a year to let this slow me down,” he said. “I’m looking forward to feeling 100 percent again.”
