Once again, the Hang Loose Pro in Fernando de Noronha (an island in the north of Brazil) proved to be Brazil’s No. 1 venue for a surf contest. Beautiful scenery and barreling head-high waves in warm clear water are all you could ask for.

Brazilian Raoni Monteiro took home us$12,000 plus the more important 2,500 ASP WQS points with American Gabe Kling coming in second place, scoring himself 2,188 points.

Other surfers with ASP WQS keeper points were third place getters Jonathan Gonzales (CNY) and Hizunome Betterro (BRA), while the others in 5th and 9th will definitely be using their points at the end of the year.

Although Patrick Gudauskas (USA) could only manage a 9th, he is still sitting atop the ASP WQS ratings with 3,594 points followed by Nathanial Curran (USA), Brett Simpson (USA) and Gabe Kling (USA), all from the USA. Raoni with his win has pushed himself to 5th place.

Next week, the action is all based on the Gold Coast with the ASP Awards banquet followed by the start of the Quiksilver Pro ASP World Tour event kicking off the year for the lucky Top 45.

Just the one junior event this week at Diggers Beach, Coffs Harbour halfway between Sydney and the Gold Coast in Australia. In the girls division, Paige Hareb from New Zealand upset current ASP World Junior Champ Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) while in the boys division Jesse Adam (AUS) defeated Stuart Kennedy (AUS).

There are no more ASP WQS or ASP Pro Junior events for a couple of weeks now until after the Quiksilver Pro ends, so things will be quiet for those unlucky enough not to be one of the ASP Top 45 or ASP Top 17.
