And Then There Were Two…Fanning and AI Eliminated From Title Contention; Slater Looking at Clinching
And Bobby? He can’t do it this year, but he has the rookie of the year title all but sewn up and he’s stoked. If he gets past Taj or Dean, he could actually beat his childhood hero Kelly in an all-American final knowing that Kelly had already clinched (just making the final in that scenario would give Kelly the title). A win/win for both. Or Taj and Parko could decide hey, Brazil’s nice this time of year, we’re gonna make Jimmy Slade go there, dammit. Then we’re going to beat him again and force it to Pipe. As you can see, a whole lot can happen. We’ll find out exactly what tomorrow because, with only three heats left, this trying event is finally set to finish. And that, everybody here will agree, is the best news of all. Round four results: (1st place to semifinal 2nd receives equal 9th placing and 600 ratings points)
Heat 1: Joel Parkinson (AUS) 13.57 def Bruce Irons (HAW) 11.00 Quarterfinals: (1st to semifinals 2nd receives equal 5th and 732 ratings points) Quarterfinal 1: Joel Parkinson (AUS) 16.34 def Mick Fanning (AUS) 15.33 Quarterfinal 4: Taj Burrow (AUS) vs Dean Morrison (AUS) Semifinals: (1st to final 2nd receives equal 3rd and 876 ratings points) Semifinal 1: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs Kelly Slater (USA)
