Gabe Kling Wins 2007 Yumeya Billabong Pro

Kling takes out Ben Bourgeois in an all East Coast final at the 6 star WQS event in Japan

Kling (Left) and Bourgeois celebrate their rise up the WQS ratings

The final day of the 2007 ASP WQS 6 Star Yumeya Billabong Pro Tahara was held on the main site, Akabane Long Beach on Ooishi Beach.

In challenging 1 to 2 foot conditions, Floridian Gabe Kling took out fellow US East Coaster Ben Bourgeois to win the WQS event and put himself in position ro requalify for the 2008 WCT tour.

Kling took out WQS points leader Tiago Pires in the quarterfinals and former WCT competitor David Weare in the semifinals in order to set up his victory.

Bourgeois, who is aiming to make his return to the WCT, went a long way towards achieving that goal today by finishing 2nd overall in this highly rated event. Bourgeois now sits at 4th overall in the current adjusted WQS standings with over 10,000 points - very close to what many are judging to be the qualification cutoff.

Congrats Ben & Gabe!

While Kling has struggled on the WCT this year, he's been smart enough to surf the WQS
