WQS Update With Al Hunt

Adam Robertson from Victoria in Australia has claimed his maiden ASP WQS win at the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime O’Neill Highland Pro in Scotland, while Ben Bourgeois from USA has claimed his fourth ASP WQS victory at the ASP WQS 4-Star 6.0 Lowers Pro at Trestles in California.

Austin Ware from USA hit the ASP WQS ratings with a 9th at Scotland, but it was short lived as a few days later at Trestles with a 4th place finish Patrick Gudauskas (USA) reclaimed the top spot.

The O’Neill Highland Pro may have had a very slow start but finished with two days of heat after heat running up to 14 hours per day.

With his win, Adam Robertson jumped into 22nd on the ratings while fellow finalist Adam Melling (AUS) moved into 5th. Semifinalists were David Weare (ZAF) and Hugo Savalli (REU) with Sunny Garcia (HAW) showing he is back as a threat with a great 5th place and hitting 11th on the ratings.

At the 6.0 Lowers Pro, Hawaiians Fred Patacchia and Joel Centeio were 2nd and 3rd with Guduaskas in 4th in the ASP WQS event, while Sebastian Zietz from Hawaii beat Jason Harris (USA), Travis Beckman (USA) and Dusty Payne (HAW) in the ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior.

While the Oakley Pro Junior was running in USA, so was the Brothers Neilsen Pro in Australia. Julian Wilson (AUS) was able to hold off Jayke Sharp (AUS) in the men’s division while Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) held off Laura Enever (AUS) to take the women’s title.

The current ASP WQS ratings see Gudauskas still in the top spot, but with a lead of only 325 points over Ware. Rounding out the top 5 are Weare jumping from 12th to 3rd, Hizunome Bettero (BRA) in 4th down from 3rd and in 5th Brett Simpson (USA).

There was not much movement in the ratings, but some of the big movers other than Weare and Robertson were Melling from 45th to 6th, Matt Wilkinson (AUS) from 24th to 11th and Garcia from 25th to 12th.

Only one ASP WQS event coming this week, the ASP WQS 1-Star Koastalkaos.com Pro at Oceanside in USA, but for the longboarders, the Oxbow Pro at Anglet in France got underway yesterday (5/5).
