Congratulations to Roy Powers on his amazing win in 10-15 feet waves at Haleiwa in the Reef Hawaiian Pro.

Roy was able to jump from 33rd to 12th on the ASP WQS, thus ensuring himself a start on the ASP World Tour in 2008.

Unfortunately, Troy Brooks was the casualty for Roy’s win and Troy was the only surfer to drop back from the current Top 15 ASP WQS qualifiers.

Outside of the Top 20 rated WQS there was no one other than Roy that moved into any sort of position to make a challenge without an excellent result at Sunset next week.

The big movers were those already inside the Top 15. Jay Thompson jumped from 7th to 3rd, Aritz Aranburu from 9th to 5th and Jeremy Flores from 18th to 10th.

Looking at the current list and what their lowest scores are to be possibly replaced, I see that Adrian Buchan can make a huge jump with a 17th or better, Kieren Perrow and Jeremy Flores also look to be able to move up the ratings and Roy Powers with a 7th or better could even make it to the No. 2 spot.

Current No.1 Jordy Smith can’t be knocked out of the top spot, so he will be the ASP WQS winner for 2007.

Outside of the current ASP WQS Top 15 qualifiers are Brooks, Padaratz, Lopez, Neve, Ross, Howse, Flintoff and Beven, who with a quarterfinal finish or better could qualify.

Mathematically, as far down as Joel Centeio in 42nd could qualify with a win at Sunset with those above him up to 36th TJ Barron also needing a win to possibly qualify.

Currently rated 30th to 35th, Weare to Courtney, will need at least a 2nd, maybe a 3rd but that’s it.

The bottom line in terms of points has risen only 100 points ,and is now 10,400 so it looks like 10,700 will be the cutoff unless a group of guys all do well that are currently rated from 20th to 30th – then it may hit 11,000.

That’s it for this week.
