The "Being Green" Directory

Further resources for environmental activism

October '06: The Green Issue
Our Mother Earth’s condition is deteriorating faster than George Bush’s approval rating. Pollutants continue to end up in our watershed, slowly but steadily destroying our reefs and beaches. When are we going to realize that it’s time we make some changes? Some already have, and we’re hoping you’re next in line. Here are a few resources recommended by our October Issue “Being Green” profile subjects to help you get started. —Martin Eichart

“The Spokesmen” Eddie Vedder and Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) www.pearljam.com/activism/carbon

THE SITE: The link above will give you the specifics of The Carbon Portfolio Strategy. Click on “Activism” to check out all the other ways Pearl Jam is helping out. If you still haven't gotten around to it, go ahead and click on the “Register to Vote” link.

THE MISSION: “The Carbon Portfolio Strategy is the newest component of our ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation. Through this Strategy, we will donate a total of $100,000 to nine organizations doing innovative work around climate change, renewable energy, and the environment.”

“The Wave Guardian” Will Henry, Save the Waves www.savethewaves.org

THE SITE: Give savesthewaves.com a look to discover what waves are currently in danger around the globe. Click on “HELP SAVE THE WAVE” to learn who to email, what petition to sign and where to send your checks. Keep an eye on the breaking news to see how Saves the Waves is, uhh, saving the waves.

THE MISSION: “Save the Waves is an environmental coalition dedicated to preserving the world's surf spots. Our goal is to preserve and protect the best surfing locations on the planet and to educate the public about their value. Save the Waves works in partnership with local communities, foreign governments, and other conservation groups to prevent coastal development from entering the surf zone.”

“The Front Line” Surfrider's Treasure Coast, Florida Chapter www.surfrider.org

THE SITE: These guys would love to give you a link to their chapter's website, but, well, they don't have one. While that's being worked on, check out the main Surfrider page. Find out what they're doing, why they're doing it, and what you can do to plug in.

THE MISSION: “The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.”

matunas wax is not petroleum free nor it is 100% organic. It's just regular old wax with some marketing. Got ask Matt directly and se what he says. All surf wax will biodegrade its made from paraffin which biodegrades. I'm 100% real.

Matunas wax is certified organic and is all natural. I saw bothe the PBS special on them and the Fuel channel. It is awful to see people post who make false claims.
