Lowers hosts the first proper swell we’ve seen in weeks, directly coinciding with the arrival of the world’s best

With almost the entire surfing world’s attention focused squarely on southern California right now, and a fine south swell pulsing, San Clemente was the epicenter of some pretty cutting edge surfing today. All the big boys have infiltrated. The up and coming groms came to watch and size up their heroes. And the everyday locals mixed it up on the slalom coarse peaks. But while most of the tour’s top pros were out perfecting boards and tuning in their top turn, Kelly was sipping pink lemonade (Core Score down BTW) at Captain Mauri’s in San Clemente with girlfriend Kalani, casual as ever. We sent “That’s Bulls—t” author and SURFING Magazine’s very own assistant photo editor Jimmy Wilson down to Lowers to capture some of this pandemonium.
